Van Jones to Come to Pomona College

Because nothing says the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. like being a 9-11 conspiracy theorist, an admitted Communist, and supporting convicted -- and admitted -- cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, who, upon apprehension, reportedly said about that officer, ""I shot the mother f---er, and I hope the mother f---er dies."

I know that posting a Glenn Beck video brings out the irrationality in my critics, but I hope that Claremont students are smart enough to evaluate all of those statements on their own.

Martin Luther King Jr rejected communism, yes, but on the grounds of its materialism and moral relativism. He wasn't a capitalist. He believed a form of democratic socialism was the only political solution to economic injustice.

Google "Poor People's Campaign" if you haven't read about this.

Excellent choice! Well done CMC. Looking forward to seeing him speak!

Also, just an FYI: there is no reputable evidence of Mumia ever saying that. It's just a allegation that has been floating around for a while and never took hold. It has about as much credibility as you stating that you're a thoughtful and kind human being.

1. Thanks. I knew that about MLK but I think it is fair to say that celebrating his day has been about far more than his actual views. Most Americans, for instance, are staunch opposed to the racial quotas he endorsed. It is, I would argue, a day to celebrate what brings us together as a multiracial republic.

2. That's why it is listed as "reportedly" on the website and two police officers (I think) did testify to it... Nice ad hominem attack, by the way.
