The election tonight for ASCMC president is going to be extraordinarily tight tonight.
But I think it represents a true choice for how the school will be going forward and maybe the first such choice we've had in a long time.
I've already laid out my views on this election at the Claremont Currents and the Claremont Forum.
To my many supporters who are as tired with ASCMC's shenanigans as I am, I say thank you for your support. When I'm elected, I will make good on the promises I have made.
To those of you who find my views on this website odious, ask yourself: Do you really know where the other two candidates stand on any issue on campus? And which one of those running do you think has the skill set to accomplish the agenda they have set out? With me, you know that you'll get competent, honest administration that doesn't play favorites or status games with your money.
We all love CMC, but there are real questions for how our campus should be governed and who should do it. And we all love parties, but they ought to be more managed, with less waste.
Remember, we're electing ASCMC president, not the president. We aren't electing a CMC cheerleader or a partier-in-chief, we're electing someone who will make real decisions about how $240,000 of your money will be spent. To date, I'm the only candidate to turn down the $20,000 that I'd have access to. No more president's special fund and no more free room and board under my watch. That money should be returned to the people it belongs to -- you.
But most importantly, this election is about ideas, not gimmicks. It's about solutions to problems -- parking, wasteful spending, tighter financial controls.
This won't be easy, even if I am elected, but with your support, your vote, and with a little luck, we can make ASCMC responsible again. I'll never forget that I work for you.
Thank you,
Charles C. Johnson
