I am off to visit my uncle in Guatemala, to work, and to get to the bottom of the country's adoption policy. Foreign adoptions by Americans, incidentally, have hit a 13-year low. Adoptions to and from Guatemala won't be resuming anytime soon and I'm not entirely sure this run down by Guatemala Post is fully accurate. I asked John Stossel about it when he came to Guatemala in 2008 when a few instances of corruption occurred.
Guatemala's got real problems, no doubt about it. Bus drivers are falling victim to brutal Guatemalan gangs because they won't pay very low bribes to the thugs, robbers are being lynched, and they are still fighting a civil war -- in court, rather than on the streets.
But God help this country now that Lindsay Lohan has put it in her sights as prime candidate to "save."
