It seems as if CMC has become a make work school, with all the students on campus this summer who will be doing research or taking classes at Pitzer's summer school.
I confess to having no hard figures on the number of students who will be working on campus, but it sure seems high relative to last year. Could it be that the college is trying to guarantee summer jobs to students who in this recession wouldn't have anywhere to go?
We know that President Gann doesn't really keep her word. She once said that the college wouldn't be expanding beyond 1100. It is now set to expand to 1400. I'm sorry, but I just don't believe her when she says it'll stay there.
And then there's this Dartmouth Plan to get an entire class to stay here during the summer so that other students can go get prestigious internships. It seems as if that would be a relatively easy sell when there are so many students working here during the summer.
