It's been suggested over at Dueling Diatribes -- a blog that has sprung up and syndicates my posts with anonymous comments -- that I "assum[e] all Mexican workers are illegals, that on campus rape reported by women is just them being sluts," and [I think] that Bobby Jindal is the answer for the republican [sic] party."
There are a lot of rumors on this campus about me, but these need to be corrected.
- I have never written or assumed that all Mexican workers are illegal.
- I have never written or said that "on campus rape reported by women is just them being sluts"
- And, I do not support anyone for the Republican Party at this time, although I really, really like Mitt Romney.
On the contrary, I question whether or not Claremont McKenna has hired illegal immigrants in the past and whether or not Pedro Gonzalez was illegal. I think that's a fair question given that we know Pomona College has admitted illegal immigrants and given them lower tuition.
For the record, I've written in favor of more immigration, especially H1-B visas, and -- assuming we didn't have a welfare state -- I would even support open borders. I don't blame anyone from any country wanting to go to a higher wage country. I would do it. But we must be a nation of laws.
The rape libel is particularly damaging. I have never written that I think that women who file on campus rape reports are sluts. I do believe, however, that rape centers are disproportionately funded -- which they are -- and that they overstate rapes on campus. For more on what I think about this, please check out this blog post and this article that I linked to about the exaggeration by feminists of rape statistics on campuses throughout the country.
I had a very close friend in high school that was sexually assaulted. I know of which I speak. By defining down the definition of rape, you end up trivializing rape. It's just wrong.
I will probably end up supporting Mitt Romney for the leader of the Republican Party if he runs again in 2012, but then again, I may not. I'll have to wait and see. I may not even be in the country then or a U.S. citizen. Who knows? Things change.
Finally, I would remind the head of that libelous blog that -- although he is free to take my content under Fair Use -- I am also free to file a grievance with Blogger.com when I am being libeled. I am also free to file a form saying that my copyrighted blog is being ripped off.
