In "Mother on Fire," humorist Sandra Tsing Loh fictionalizes the campus as Marymount and the coffeehouse as the Kahlo Cafe, where "Frida Kahlo's accusing visage gazes down from every wall." But in an appearance last week at Claremont McKenna College, Loh revealed that she was really satirizing Scripps, before reading the chapter aloud. The coffehouse counter, Loh wrote, "is a tattered collage of hand-lettered signs delineating a complex web of relationships between global sustainable farming practices, the oppressions of minimum wage for the counter employees, (Scripps) student food allergies, and the politics of fat-free cinnamon buns." Among the signs the humorist claims she saw: "Soy Hazelnut Lattes Are Made Exclusively From Local, Organic, Shade Grown Farms." "Please Keep Used Dairy Items Separate From Vegan Counter - Please!!!" "Change for Darfur." "100,000 Trees Cut Down Every Day - Recycle Your Cups." "Yes Brownie Nut Cinnamon Swirl Cupcakes Do Utilize Egg Whites But Are 100 Percent Cruelty Free." The coffeehouse served tea not in bags or pots or balls, Loh wrote, but in "an invention all its own, the tea sock. Which appears to be made of hemp. It's the $4 hemp tea sock." Loh taught writing for a semester at Scripps in spring 2007. In her appearance Wednesday, she spoke fondly of the Scripps cafeteria's vegan curry and her daily visits to the Motley, the student-run coffeehouse. To avoid hurting anyone's feelings, Loh admitted, she had changed the names for her book. I guess she wanted it to be 100 percent cruelty free. "This is the part about Scripps," Loh announced to laughter from the McKenna audience as she began her reading. "But don't tell them. I love them." The secret's safe with me.
SCRIPPS COLLEGE'S student-run Motley Coffeehouse is sent up for its political correctness in a new memoir.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin wrote about Sandra Tsing Loh's visit to the Ath last week.
I wonder if Ms. Sandra Tsing Loh will be banned from the Motley as I was for writing something critical of the Motley. (I admit that I don't much care to be readmitted. It's a bit like being disinvited from N. Korea.)

Ilan and I attended PSU's debate and got our photo taken with the man who brought down, our last philandering, womanizing president. Thanks, Dean Starr.
You'd think Starr would be applauded by the Left for stopping the then president, Bill Clinton, from having a sexual affair with a 22-year old intern, but then you'd be wrong.
Just who is leading the charge against Starr? (From The Student Life)
Jocelyn Greene SC ‘11 saidthat while it is valuable to havedifferent opinions on campus,it is irresponsible to bring aspeaker whose presence threatensthe gay community whenshe said that the communityalready does not feel supportedby the 5Cs.“This is the best way for usto show that the strength andspirit of the queer communitydepends on the people in it anddoesn’t require majority approvalor legal legitimization,”said Greene. “We’re hoping toeducate people about who KenStarr is because we want tomake it impossible for peopleto go hear him speak withoutunderstanding the devastationthat’s he currently involvedin.”
"Irresponsible"? "Devastation"? Oh, stop it.

The Marxist Party in Benson Makes Me Sick

Thursday night there was a party where the communist flag was flung and people celebrated communism. How disgusting. How lamentable. How juvenile.
Just imagine the outcry if there were a Nazi Party or KKK party on campus and yet no one says anything about the communist party party. (We had a huge to do about a "white party.")
Communism killed over 149 million people and a bunch of drunk college students celebrate their murderers. Where's the outrage from the Holocaust sequence people?
Yeah, it doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth.
