The Claremont Independent is running a story on the banning of Claremont McKenna students, David Daleiden and Kyle Kinneberg, from your campus. Would you mind sitting down with me either tomorrow or Friday to talk about it?
Thank you,
Charles Johnson

Hello Charles. While I will not be able to schedule a meeting with you, you may send some questions via email.

Dear Dean
Holmes,
May I ask why you would prefer not to be interviewed in person? It is standard practice for the Claremont Independent to interview people in person and to use email to follow up.
Thank you,
Charles

Hello Charles-
I did an interview for your publication via e-mail last year and think this worked well. I look forward to reading your questions and will get back to you in a timely fashion.

Dear Dean
Holmes,
Thank you for your response.
I have several questions, but the first one is can you point to the relevant section or sections of the student handbook that Kyle and David are alleged to have violated? I should have a follow up or two from there.
Thank you,

Dear Charles:
Please know that you have my permission to quote this statement. I am happy to clarify some issues for you and for your readers. Although I cannot talk about specific individuals due to privacy concerns , I can let you know about our general process and why an individual may be banned from Pomona. When an individual has received a ban order, he or she is often encouraged to speak directly to representatives of the College to discuss whatever is unclear. Individuals can be banned for a number of reasons, some of which may or may not involve violations of the student code. For example, individuals may be banned due to an altercation, due to disruptive behavior, or due to other violations. The issuance of a ban is related to the ability of a private college to restrict access to individuals if we feel that their presence was or could be disruptive to activities that take place on our campus or to members of our community. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share a perspective on the matter with you and with your readers. Best of luck to you with the publication of your article.

Thank you, Dean
Holmes. Thank you for answering my questions via email. I have permission from both Kyle Kinneberg and David Daleiden to ask you any questions regarding to the letter that you sent to them yesterday.
Could you then name a single policy, from the handbook or elsewhere, that they violated? And if the reason for banning them was their alleged disruptive conduct, will you be initiating proceedings against any of the Pomona students who took place in the Karl Rove protests at Claremont McKenna earlier this year or the shouting down of Marvin Stewart at Pomona?
Thank you again,
Charles
