Clarification: I initially wrote that ASCMC should have the money only to send Kyle to Paris, Texas, implying that ASCMC was paying for the trip to Paris. It is not. But, by the alumnus providing it, it did free up money that would otherwise have gone to the prizes. In that way, it is fungible.
- The venue was disappointing. You could barely hear the dealers over the sound of the music directly next door. Why couldn't it have been in the Collins again, with the dance outside? Our dates would have been a great deal warmer, too.
- Costs, costs, costs. A running joke with some friends of mine is that ASCMC will instead by sending Kyle Cassella, the winner of the raffle, to Paris, Texas, because that's what ASCMC should have the money for, instead of sending him to Paris, France. Moreover, why is it the same price for guests and nonguests, if the guests can't win that trip to Paris? Shouldn't they get some kind of discount? The tickets really ought to have been cheaper, with people choosing whether or not they wanted to go to the dance, or the poker table, or both. Let people pay and reveal what their preferences are.
- Can can dancers? Really? Do I even need to say something about that?
- Move along. Oh, and finally, I'm sorry, but if you graduated two years ago, please stop taking over our events, stop judging Mr. Stag, stop hogging the megaphone, and go do something with your life. Yes, that means you, Sam Stecker, Class of 2008.

1. I hear the trip to Paris was donated by an alumnus, so ASCMC didn't spend anything on it. Check your "facts."
2. Tickets are more for guests because they don't pay student fees that helped subsidize the event.
3. The can can dancers were a hit, and very inexpensive.
4. Why are you so full of hate?
I heard that the trip was donated. I also heard it was paid for. I don't know which it is, and will gladly print a retraction whenever shown to be wrong.
Don't even get me started on the waste in our student fees.
How were they a "hit"? Measured how?
Just my opinion, no need to disparage me.

You choose funny things to get upset about.
Monte Carlo is a CMC event which is open to current students and alumni, including alumni who've recently graduated. You do realize that this is our homecoming dance? Homecoming dancers typically allow and encourage alumni support. While I agree that alumni should not be hogging the microphone, I am happy that so many alums thinks so highly of our school that they choose to make it out here for homecoming. Your article made it sound as if you don't want newer alumni attending Monte Carlo, but if your complaint was against the microphone incident, then you should perhaps rephrase what you wrote.
As for guest tickets, can you name one 5C event where guest prices are cheaper? I can't. Students always get a discount.
And the paris trip was donated.
Yes, yes. Please come to our events, but you are now a guest and not a full participant, in much the same way I would be a guest, and not a full participant at an alumni event.
Thanks for having me clarify that.
Where's the link on the trip to Paris? Is there an email or someone willing to say so on record?
Yeah I agree with Charles... the music was way too loud and i thought it ruined the event. I also would have liked to see it inside Collins (too cold and too dark). The only potential problem with that is Collins getting trashed by drunks.
Didn't see the can can dancers... so no opinion
"Where's the link on the trip to Paris? Is there an email or someone willing to say so on record?"
Typical of you to publish a falsehood then demand someone to prove you wrong. Why don't you get the facts straight the first time (for example, by asking someone involved in the event), so you don't have this problem?
I am glad to see you pull back from the brink on not wanting to see alumni at Monte Carlo. I always hear how students want to interact with alumni more often, and a nice social atmosphere such as a party on campus is a great way to do that. Alumni should not be a focus or distraction, but they should be a an asset to the event, much like they crowded the stands at that amazing football game. Then again, I would be curious to know how other students feel about alumni at Monte Carlo. Please comment. I frequently hear alumni comment about attending Monte Carlo but feeling that it woudl be awkward to go. Do students feel awkward if alumni attend?
I don't have a problem with alumni going to any and all events, but I think that they ought to be seen and not really heard.
As for the Paris trip, I had heard that it was donated, but I had also heard that it was paid for. It wouldn't alter my argument one way or the other because money is fungible.
"It wouldn't alter my argument one way or the other because money is fungible."
Look up the word fungible. ASCMC can't just convert a trip to Paris to cash if it was given specifically as a Monte Carlo prize, so the trip is NOT fungible.
ASCMC has to give out a prize for winning it all, correct? In the past that has been round trip airfare to anywhere in the U.S. This year they did not offer that. The money that would have gone to a larger prize is now usable for other purposes. Hence fungible.
The trip to Paris was donated by an alumnus. The e-mail that was sent out to the student body from my account stated that the trip was donated from an alumnus. I thought you had a penchant for copying e-mails and posting them onto your blog, but perhaps you have changed. Should you have any questions regarding Monte Carlo, please feel to contact me.
Thanks, Tammy. I've fixed it up top now.
Of course, as anyone who reads the Claremont Conservative knows, I only put up emails that have to deal with the campus as a whole and are emailed to everyone, but sometimes some stuff gets through me, just as I'm sure it gets through your flawless planning of events.
