The 20-year-old victim was running near the intersection of College Avenue and Eighth Street in Claremont at 12:45 a.m. when a passenger in a car stopped him, said Claremont police Lt. Jon Traber. The passenger asked the jogger for directions. When the victim approached, the man in the car leaned out of the window, grabbed the victim and threatened him, Traber said. He demanded his personal property. The victim feared for his safety, so he handed over items that were in his pockets. The people in the vehicle drove away on College Avenue. Police said the vehicle is a black four-door 1990s Honda or Toyota. The victim was unable to give a detailed description of the robbers. Are you serious? You think this incident can be used as an excuse to allow students to carry guns on campus? Do you seriously think that even if students could carry guns on campus, they would carry guns while out for a jog? This is a prime example of using an incident to further a political agenda despite the fact that the incident would not have been any different if students could carry guns on campus. In my opinion, your "newspaper" just lost any previous legitimacy.
Hey Sagehen,
I abhor violence, but I would just encourage you not to have such a knee jerk reaction and read up a little bit before you go all anti-self defense on us. Here a link to get you started. http://concealedcampus.org/
Maybe you're okay with people breaking in to North Campus (as they did last year) and assaulting two girls. Maybe if we increased the price of attacking one of us by even just a few of us having guns, the criminals, most of whom are looking for quick money, anyways will reconsider.
It's also not a newspaper, it's a blog. As for legitimacy, hearing left wing reactionary statements just makes me realize that I'm doing my job.
"Maybe you're okay with people breaking in to North Campus and assaulting two girls."
Really, bud? You're going to go there? Just a tip... if you want people to actually take you seriously try to avoid making stupid comments like that. Also, I encourage you not to assume everyone else is less well read than you. You don't know me so kindly do not assume that I'm uneducated in the matter.
My bad thinking this was also a newspaper. I'm not sure where I got that idea... a blog makes much more sense.
Anyway, it's obvious that none of the Claremont Colleges agree with your position in regards to guns on college campuses so I'm not too concerned with defending my position. Have a nice day.
