Video to Come by Midnight Tonight

David gave me permission and a copy of the video which I will break up and then put up in their entirety by midnight tonight.

You will see several things in the video.

On the video, David and Kyle ask if they want them to leave three times, only to have Serena Josel continue to lecture them about the California law (which she was wrong on, by the way.)

They also stopped recording when Josel asked them to stop recording, even though the law was correctly on their side. This means that Dean Feldblum and Dean Holmes's following statement isn't true:
"When we hear that someone has failed to respect one of the central values of the Women’s Union by recording a conversation in this way, and/or continuing to record when repeatedly told to stopwe feel compelled to respond.”
That never actually happened. Will Dean Marcelle Holmes and Dean Miriam Feldblum apologize? Or will they continue to threaten these students?

Will it come down by the 6th, per the order from Pomona?

Never said this in my life, but I'll say it now in response to Anonymous:

Puck Fomona.

My God. This sort of thug behavior on the part of college administrators makes me angrier than I know how to express. I didn't think it was possible, but my opinion of Pomona has somehow sunk lower. Christian civilization needs to seriously consider rejecting that gift.

I do hope that the students are pursuing legal action.

Legal action would be excessive. This will surely implode eventually, as all overreactions in Claremont eventually do.

I don't think it would be excessive, if there is cause here (I have only the slightest knowledge of California law, but I remember doings some research as an undergrad and feeling extremely confident in my right to carry a tape recorder into any event I felt like). If Pomona backs off from this quietly, they'll keep behaving this way, presuming, correctly, that most students will cave when they receive a letter from a dean threatening legal action. If, instead, under threat of lawsuit they make a public apology and recognize that "public event" means anyone can record it, then this could have a salutary effect on student freedom in Claremont.

Charles - I'm sure you're working on this, as it's pretty anxiously awaited. As a Pomona student whose decision on how to respond to the deans' actions is pretty heavily based on exactly what happened at the WU, I can't wait to see this. Even if, for some reason, you aren't able to post the video online, I'd still like to see it to form an opinion. I think you know how to get in touch with me.
