The Forum Changes Hands

Correction: I was mistaken when I suggested that the process for selecting Abhi Nemani as editor of The Forum was opaque and corrupt. Now if only we can get their budget and spending and allotment of spending to reflect same level of transparency...

Luckily, Ross Boomer, the Forum's Censor-in-Chief, is now gone. You might remember when he said that criticizing him was "b----ing" and attacked me personal again on the Forum website and when he deleted my completely appropriate comment against homosexual marriage.

I thought that this matter was settled, but Ross referred to me, sub silentio, as "pudgy" and
"questionably evil" in his missive from The Forum. He suggests that I tried to blackmail him. (I'll have you know that there's nothing "pudgy" about me. My last BMI analysis suggested that I was at "normal weight." As for "evil," I think that ad hominem attack speaks for itself.)

Ross is now starting this rumor that I threatened to out him as a homosexual, in some kind of sick retribution against his censorship of my views. Nothing like that happened and I'd be more than willing to share my entire correspondence with Ross with anyone who would like to see it, just email me. What actually happened was that he demanded that I take down a blog post about him on this site and got all of his friends to call my friends and tell me to do it. I left the blog post up and told him that I would leave it up until he restored my comment, but I eventually took it down after trying to be the better man. He responded by spreading rumors about me.

So long, Ross, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Your first two paragraphs are completely erroneous so I stopped reading at that point. Here's the e-mail to the student body that proves you wrong:

Hey Everyone,

ASCMC is composed of both elected and appointed board members. We voted on the elected officials yesterday and now it's time to fill the appointed positions. There are five available appointed positions:

* Chief Financial Officer (Mike Shambon) - Responsible for writing the checks, keeping the books, serving on budget committee, filing taxes. This is a big time commitment.
* Campus Organizations Chair (Josh Siegel) - Manage club budgets, serve on budget committee to allocate student fees, distribute/spend a discretionary fund.
* Forum Editor (Ross Boomer) - Manage The Forum website, writers, and serve as an adviser to the Executive Board.
* Executive Secretary (Tammy Phan) - Take minutes at meetings, serve on the Executive Board, budget commitee and vote on all ASCMC board matters.
* President Pro-Tempore (Shamil Hargovan) - Deal with the ASCMC Constitution, ethics, senate procedures, etc.

Each position carries significant responsibility. If you have any questions regarding a position, please contact myself, Isayas, Josh or any of the people listed above. You can see more details about specific job descriptions and duties in the ASCMC Constitution.

If you are interested in applying for any of these positions, please send a cover letter and resume to Story House Box #1170. Applicants for the Chief Financial Officer position should include a transcript (official or unofficial). All applications must be delivered to Story House by noon on Friday, March 6th.

Lame Duck,

ERIK

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the comment. I stand corrected on the transfer of power. I assumed that there would be a vote in ASCMC and that it wouldn't be done behind close doors.

Josh said...

There was a vote by elections committee, whose members were elected by the student body or by senate. You could change the content of your original post to reflect the error.

No Josh, INTEGRITY would dictate that CJ fix his error.

CJ would stubbornly keep the error in the post and begrudgingly and sheepishly "stand corrected" in the comments section with the hope that people don't read the comments.

Integrity, I'm changing the post now.

Damn. How does Abhi keep climbing the ranks and padding the resume? Anyone who's been in a discussion-based class with him has plenty of reason to doubt his acumen. His Port Side writing actually makes him look smarter and more articulate (if not more verbose) than really is.

Dan said...

Who exactly is smarter than Abhi on the left? No one comes to my mind readily. I think he'll do a good job as editor of the Forum.

Hi Charles,

I wanted to further agree with Josh about the change of hands in the Forum position. I was elected to the elections committee this semester by the Senate. As a member of the committee, I was in the deliberations that chose Abhi as the new editor of the Forum. We reviewed resumes, cover letters, and clearly followed the rules set forth in the ASCMC constitution.

dude, you really do look pudgy. Its not a bad thing, but you seriously look pudgy. The freshman 10 will do that to you. Even if your BMI is 20-25 or whatever, you look pudgy regardless.

I think any comment about Charles' physical appearance, "pudgy" or not (I am not judging whatsoever), is irrelevant when it comes to his postings and his dealings with ASCMC or the forum.

It's a pretty cheap shot to attack someone in such an irrelevant way. Play nice, kids.

Even though I don't always agree with Charles, I encourage him to keep shaking things up.

As another thought... if "anonymous" chooses to make those types of comments, he should Man Up and own his or her own opinion.

JRAFT, this is the internet. What do you mean by man up? Am I some kind of super masculine man for posting my name on some cheap free forum? Story time! I used to never post anonymously, and one time, on a stock forum, I apparently pissed someone off so badly that they started looking for my personal info. I make sure that my facebook and google trails doesn't lead to me but this jerk was smart and used some other obscure websites to finally track me down. Well, after a phone number change, and a deletion of all my accounts which used my previous name, I learned one thing. if you are going to upset people, POST ANONYMOUSLY. There are a ton of freaks on the net who will stalk people they can track down. As Ross Boomer shows, if you say one stupid thing about some pudgy troll or delete one comment, that troll might take it seriously and try to blackmail you (or post anonymously under multiple monikers for a year on your blog, or call campsec on Josh Siegel and others who are friends with you, or write inane stuff about Ross on what was once a legitimate website for a legitimate publication which is now dominated by petty trollign personal attacks)

wow, i think yoda is above me. so wise. seriously.

Second from the bottom,

THEY'RE coming to get you!!!!!!

Jraft said...

Not "super masculine" as you say, Anonymous, but better that you are not hiding behind internet anonymity. I suppose that I just hold myself to a higher standard in that I consider owning up to opinions, whether positive or negative (but hopefully constructive) is courageous. I see that your comments were probably of the same inflammatory, nonconstructive and possibly offensive nature as your previous post. That's the reason you post anonymously, so you can trash whomever you feel like trashing in whatever way you feel is most inappropriate, not because some attacker will randomly pick you out in the crowd. If you are sought out it will be because of the nature of your postings- offensive, nonconstructive, and useless.

jraft, this is a free online forum, not the UN building. The things we say here aren't written down and passed down from generation to generation. Quit putting blog posts on a pedestal.

My posts were not offensive or unconstructive or useless, as you say. I, like many others, think Charles has put on some weight and that he looks a bit pudgy. There is nothing wrong with looking a bit pudgy, but it is a 100% subjective thing. Charles felt the need to take the time to point out his BMI info so I took the time to say, dude, you look pudgy. It is not useless as it is a direct response to an aspect of his article

As an aside, I used the word super masculine in my post as you told me to man up. I don't like using sexist language but I felt it was appropriate there. That is also why I put it in scare quotes.

But Jraft, I can tell quite a few things about you from your post
1) You take life too seriously
2) You think blogging is some sacred institution
3) You have no idea how to debate (you left my stalker argument untouched. Clash is the heart of constructive debate and you just left it sitting there, untouched. Shame on you for ignoring valid arguments)

Chill out, relax, have fun, and quit thinking in terms of black and white. Just because someone disagrees with a post, doesn't mean the poster is evil and isn't being constructive. Just because someone posts anonymously doesn't mean he or she should "man up". And more importantly, take things with a grain of salt.

Charles Johnson said...

I assume that last comment was from Ross. I just think it's funny that the Left feels the need to bring up my weight, which as an objective fact has been going down, and ignores my arguments.

Anonymous said...

Truly, I'm not Ross. Truly, I do think you look pudgy, regardless of whether your weight has gone up or down a bit in recent times. Truly, I don't mean to bring up the weight issue as a personal attack. Truly, I only addressed it as you added your BMI argument.

Jraft said...

Anonymous-

You may have a point. I do stick with parts of my arguments, but I agree that I might have been a bit extreme and that I lodged on to something petty that has nothing to do with the actual article in the blog.

Thank you.

Back to appointed positions in ASCMC-

I understand based on Carlos' post as well as Erik's posting that the position was filled through a review of application materials by elected individuals but I would make the suggestion that these meetings are open to the public to watch but not participate in. Many individuals, including Abhi, have friends on these committees who are willing to dismiss applications of others so their friends can obtain these spots. I know it happens and I think it is fairly well understood that this process occurs within ASCMC (or at least that is a layman's view). By allowing other people to over hear the committee meeting we might be able to cut down on this practice.

What do you all think?
