I quote from their article "Some large donations to U.S. universities and colleges."
"Claremont McKenna College: $200 million from an anonymous donor, 2007."
This is an anonymous gift? Just look at the title, "Alumnus Robert Day Makes $200 Million Gift to Claremont McKenna College."
It breaks my heart that my hometown paper so messed up on this one, but there it is black on white.
I guess once they got bought by The New York Times they too wanted "all the news that's fit to print."

(04/09/08: Will Bingham of The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin has more.
The essential paragraphs comes from Petropoulos himself. (The bolding is mine.)
In particular, professor Petropoulos stated in his resignation letter to me, "Even though I strongly believe I engaged in appropriate and ethical conduct, I recognize that this matter is a continuing distraction that places an unnecessary burden on the effective operations of the center."Could someone please explain to me how his conduct is ethical?
He also says that the report in The Claremont Independent is wrong. How so?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elise Viebeck just broke this story on the Claremont Independent last night
Claremont Mckenna History Professor, Jonathan Petropoulos, will resign from his position as Director at the Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights. The resignation will be effective Summer 2008.
"Faculty Gregory Hess made the announcement to CMC professors at a meeting on April 8."
"Sources say that Hess' statement, which will be released to Trustees on April 9, closely resembles a March 7 letter sent to Trustees and tenured and tenure-track faculty."
