In light of the rather hilarious and rather tragically stupid case of corruption from the governor of Illinois, and for true practitioners of political schadenfreude such as I, it is incumbent upon us to leave you with a great, pithy line from the founder of our college, George C. S. Benson, pictured in the center way above.
In Political Corruption in America, George C. S. Benson concludes that "most election frauds occur in areas of one-party dominance." (169)
Chicago, Alaska, or New York, anyone? Still like one party rule, my Democrat friends?
As luck and irony would have it, today is world anti-corruption day. What a pity the Feds didn't arrest Blagojevich on his birthday, which falls tomorrow.
UPDATE: I had nearly forgotten one my favorite quotations from Benson. Let me quote from another priceless book of Dr. George C. S. Benson. This one is called Amoral America and it was printed in 1975. Benson wrote with co-author Thomas S. Engeman,"Our astounding crime rate is largely due to lack of ethics, which, in turn, is due to lack of ethical instruction in the schools and other opinion-forming institutions."
How true.

Where were your posts about all the republican corruption scandals of the past eight years? Ted Stevens? Ignore it as if it's OK when it's republicans, throw up your arms and blame all democrats when it's a democrat?
Why don't you condemn corruption in general? Isn't corruption bad, regardless of party? Do you actually believe that democrats are innately prone to corruption? How naive.
Anonymous,
Do you not read? What part of Alaska do you not see?
And what corrupt Republicans? Insofar as I can tell, only one group of them did something corrupt -- the Ted Stevens and Don Young gang.
How quickly we forget the likes of Duncan Hunter, Bob Ney, and Larry Craig, who today had his conviction upheld once again.
Mark Foley, anyone? And Jim Gibbons...
1. Duncan Hunter was never convicted of anything.
2. I grant Bob Ney, but in order for a state to be fully corrupt, you need to have a lot of the government be one party. That didn't happen in Ohio.
3. I don't think Larry Craig should be prosecuted. I'm unaware as to what the crime was. Soliciting sex? Not something I would do, but that's better handled with property rights than with government force.
4. Mark Foley sent text messages, albeit lewd ones. At least Democrat sex scandals actually involve sex...
5. Jim Gibbons hasn't been convicted of anything, or even had charges filed.
Shall I go through the list of Democrats?
Well if not being convicted makes it OK, than why did you include Chicago? Isnt the Gov innocent until found guilty by a jury of his peers?
CJ, you were doing so good! Then you went and put on your angry, irrational, asshole cloak again!
It makes me sad. :(
Enjoy solitude...
"And what corrupt Republicans?"
When I reflect on the past 8 years, I put my fingers in my ears and go LALALALALALALALALA.
Here is Illinois it's a contest as to which party is more corrupt. Certainly the Republicans have been the winners in that regard (I cite the administration of now-imprisoned former Republican governor George Ryan), with some of the most viciously corrupt administrations in Illinois history---and that's saying a lot. But the last truly honest governor of Illinois was a Republican---that being Richard Ogilvie.
